C: Mapping innovation: how gas infrastructure, networks and entrepreneurship drive the energy transition.

Track:Parallel session

This session investigates the interplay between innovation systems and spatial infrastructure in the energy transition. Researchers Florian Noseleit (economics and entrepreneurship) and Milad Abbasiharofteh (spatial complexity and networks) combine perspectives to explore questions like: Where do hydrogen and green gas initiatives cluster, and why? How do infrastructure elements such as pipelines and ports shape regional innovation hubs? And can spatial data help predict or guide where successful transition regions will emerge? The joint presentation will be followed by an interactive segment with maps, polls, and audience annotations — encouraging participants to share their insights and perspectives. Afterwards, the Dutch regional and national gas grid operators will share their vision on hydrogen grid developments based on a selection of the work done in the HyRegions and HyDelta: what spatial, economic or technical aspects factor into choices of gas grid repurposing, new hydrogen grid roll-out and applied innovation projects?

Finally, there will be time to interact with the experts of the University of Groningen and the HyDelta project (DNV, Kiwa Technology, TNO, New Energy Coalition, Netbeheer Nederland and Gasunie).
